Erlanger Lions August 2014 Lingo

BINGO:

This is a lifeline for our work and we are struggling every week for workers. This is a great way for students to get in volunteer hours for their schools. Our organization welcomes anyone who can spare some time on Friday nights, whether it’s only an hour or a whole evening. We would also like to welcome our new Bingo Co-Chairs Lion Pam Crail and Lion Mary Rhodes.  They’ve been doing a wonderful job since taking over in July and we look forward to great things.

Budget:

We will be generating the 2014-2015 Lion Year Budget and need inputs from all committee chairs.

 Eyesight:

As many of you know, in the fall we had several eye screening machines breakdown. In recent months Lion JD has been working with city/state officials to help our organization obtain grants in order for us to purchase new updated machines.

Camp Crescendo:

Lion Smitty and Lion Sara are always happy to accept donations to assist in funding Camp Crescendo. Anyone can help by dropping off cans, ink cartridges and old mobile phones for recycling. These items and any cash donations can be dropped off during any club meeting or Friday night BINGO. All proceeds raised from donations will be forwarded to the camp to assist with expenses. Please note that Smitty and Sara are always happy to talk about their camp experiences. So feel free to speak with them directly for more information regarding the wonderful camps provided each year to the kids.

Bike Run at ELC Park:

We will be hosting a Motorcycle Bike Run September 6. This will be an early and late day event. We will be providing drinks and food.

Reminders:

-Eat at the Erlanger Skyline Chili on the 1st Wednesday of every month to help our charity work. Tell your server you are with the Erlanger Lions and a percentage of your bill is donated back to the club.

-Please ensure Erlanger Lions is listed as the recipient of donations for Kroger and Remke Cards.

-Tell your family/friends to give our name when checking out at GFS (Gordon Food Service). By taking this simple proactive step, GFS will issue our organization a check for 7 percent of all sales linked to our club’s name at the end of the year.

Erlanger Lions Lingo – June 2014

A new board was installed at the June 19th meeting. Please welcome our 2nd time Lion President Brad Sand and Lion 1st Vice John Tomlinson to the head table.  The leadership team and directors of the Erlanger Lions club are hardworking people with a drive to see Lionism flourish in our community.

Congratulation Lion Allan Stephens! He was honored as the 2013-2014 Erlanger Lion of the Year.  Lion Allan’s outstanding efforts, coordinating the activities of his team and bringing in experts to resolve problems were vital to our continued operations and brought the park to new heights of safety and availability.  Thank you Allan for all you do.

Festival Update:

Despite great effort by many lions and circumstances beyond our control, we will not be hosting our festival the third week of July.  Lion JD went put in a great effort and we thank him greatly for all the work.

Scholarships:

Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each per year have been awarded again this year to two students each from St. Henry and Lloyd Memorial High Schools.

 

Youth Activities:

The 2014 Football/Cheerleading season is fast approaching. We have approximately 200 children signed up for Football Cheerleading for the 2014 season.  Way to go YA council for making this program so successful.  We also had a play named MVP at the Anthony Munoz Football camp in June.

Equipment handouts will take place on Sunday, July 13th. Specific times are listed below per squad.

Please note that in order to pickup equipment for your child, fees must be paid in full. If you have not yet completed payment, you can fulfill the fees by means of cash, credit card or money order on the 13th.

Festival Update:

Lion JD and other committee members have been working hard on getting letters out in the mail to various vendors. He plans on reviewing responses we have received and other aspects of the event during our June board meeting on Thursday, June 12th.

Please contact Lion JD if you know of any local businesses wishing to have a booth or are willing to sponsor our event.

Youth Activities:

The 2014 Football/Cheerleading season is fast approaching. Youth Activities will be holding a signup at the Lions Club from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday, June 7, 2014.

Additionally, our organization was the proud recipient of a $1,000.00 grant from USA Football this year. The funds from this grant will be utilized to purchase Riddell equipment. We would like to extend a sincere thanks to USA Football and Riddell for their support of our program.

PDG Charyn Lonnemann received the Lion’s Presidents Medal, the second highest award in Lionism.  With her,right to left are  PID Robert E. “Bob” Corlew, candidate for 2nd International Vice President, Charyn Lonnemann, Council Chair George Lonnemann and PID Thomas Matney.  These awards were presented at the Multi-Distict 43 State convention Saturday, May 17 in Owensboro, KY.

 

Bingo Hall Reset

Starting Thursday at 6pm all hands are needed to continue the reset of Bingo tables and chairs.  The floor will look fantastic with the new seal and wax job being completed today.  So Bring your work gloves early to Thursday’s Membership meeting so we can get this done beforehand.

Easter Egg Hunt is around the corner:

Lion Sheila is still accepting donations for this year’s Easter Egg Hunt. The Hunt will take place at 11am on Saturday, April 19th. Of course, we will be up at the club earlier that morning to finish any final tasks. However, it should be noted that we plan on filling eggs prior to the day of the event. Please contact Lion Sheila if you are able to assist with any tasks (ex: filling eggs, morning of preparation).
Please feel free to drop off any of the following items to any meeting or BINGO night:
*Bagged candy with individually wrapped pieces/snack packs
*Stuffed animals
*Basket stuffers (bubbles, jump ropes, etc.)

Per Lion Sheila, we have plenty of eggs, baskets and grass to line the baskets. Therefore, please avoid buying these particular items.
